Post-Vegas Blues

Just a little over a week ago I returned home from Las Vegas for the West Coast Conference Basketball Tournament feeling a little funky.

For every Gonzaga student, it is the sacred rite of passage to go to the WCC Tournament in Las Vegas to watch your very own Gonzaga Bulldogs take the court.

The Las Vegas Strip is a far cry from the two bars located on Hamilton Street that occupy much of the Gonzaga party scene.

Entering the wonderful world of Las Vegas is almost like a true rags-to-riches story for a GU student.

The options are endless!

But what happens when you leave the real city that never sleeps?

Do you have trouble sleeping yourself?

Are you feeling sad? Lonely? Anxious?

You may have the “post-vegas blues.”

But don’t worry; I am a certified professional here to help you through this hard time.

While the post-vegas blues are usually contracted in Vegas, one can obtain this disease through a series of sleepless nights and binge drinking in any location throughout the world.

What is Post-Vegas Blues?

It’s natural to feel down sometimes, but if that mood lingers day after day after your vacation, it could be a sign of the “post-vegas blues” or also known as (PVB).

Post-vegas blues is an episode of sadness or apathy along with other symptoms that lasts a week or longer after your stay in Las Vegas (or any vacation that involves copious amounts of alcohol).

This could potentially be severe enough to interrupt daily activities from your lack of sleep throughout your visit.

PVB is not a sign of weakness or a negative personality; it’s a sign that your daily life is not nearly as fun as the one you just experienced.

Although a major public health problem, PVB is a treatable medical condition.

Do You Know Your Post-Vegas Blues Medication?

There are a variety of medications that can treat post-vegas blues.

Alcohol

Alcohol is the perfect medication for post-vegas-blues. After all, your body was reliant on this liquid form of medication for the past few days and it might still be craving it. As long as it’s done in moderation, alcohol works wonders…. for everything! Including cuts, bruises, studying, etc.

Book Another Vacation

Another form of medication is to book another trip. Who cares if you just spent hundreds of dollars on your previous vacation? Your mental health depends on it!

Online gambling or Visit Your Local Casino

You know you miss that rush of Black Jack or Roulette! There is nothing like leaving the club at 3AM because your feet hurt to go gambling!

To aid you in your recovery, I have provided a link that helps find a casino near you:

And if you can’t find a casino within the vicinity of your home, here are the top online gambling apps to download straight to your phone:

While these medications all work to take away or reduce the symptoms of PVB, the question still remains on the safety of these medications for children and women who are pregnant.

Myths and Facts About Post-Vegas Blues.

If you think someone is suffering from PVB, the best way to help is to cheer them up.

FALSE

Do your friend or relative a favor and encourage them to talk to a medical professional (such as myself).

Which of the following are not linked to Post-Vegas Blues:

  1. Headache
  2. Trouble sleeping
  3. Losing interest in everyday life
  4. Paying $100 for a wristband to get into clubs and not getting into the club

The correct answer is (D) Paying $100 for a wristband to get into clubs and not getting into the club. There is nothing one misses about wasting $100. There have been no medical records published stating, “Wow, I am so happy I lost $100 and wasted my entire night!”

Which of these symptoms are more likely for women:

  1. Running out of “Throwback Thursdays” to post on Instagram
  2. Finding nowhere else in the country where women have far more privileges than men
  3. Having a low bank account
  4. Missing personal belongings

The correct answer is (B) Finding nowhere else in the country where women have far more privileges than men. Sorry to all the men who have to pay thousands of dollars to receive bottle service and actually wait in line to get into places.

When you recover your symptoms…

  1. Will fade within a week
  2. Will take awhile to go away
  3. Will never change

The correct answer is (B) Will take a while to go away. Although you may be feeling down in the dumps about the conclusion of your trip, there is much more to life than staying up till the sun is bright and shinning for multiple nights in a row and finding out your phone is in the backseat of an Uber by watching your Uber driver post to your own snapchat story…. Or maybe that’s just me.

But don’t forget, I am a medical professional so basically you are receiving valuable medical advice free of charge.

To leave you with a quote from author Madeleine L’Engle,

“Maybe you have to know the darkness before you can appreciate the light.”

So party on motherfuckers.

Party on.

Cheers,

Erin
